Ms. Freeman has been teaching Physical Education at Macdonald High School since 2010.
WHAT IS TAUGHT IN MS. FREEMAN'S PHYS. ED CLASS? :
* A variety of sports and skills such as volleyball, badminton, soccer, floor hockey, intercrosse, basketball, handball
* A variety of fitness skills such as cardio, strength training, yoga, kickboxing, stretching
* How to have fun while participating through physical activity
* How to respect oneself and others
Grade 7, 8, & 9 have fitness tests twice per year to measure each student's fitness level to a basis of fitness, including a 1 mile run, the Beep Test, push ups, sit ups, a vertical jump test, and a shuttle run.
Grade 10 students get certified in CPR if they pass their course!
Grade 11 students create their own Low Organizational basic games and teach one another!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE OUTLINE
Purpose and Course Objective of Physical Education
The purpose of Physical Education is to enable participants to enhance their quality of life through active living. Physical Education provides participants with unique learning opportunities that allow all students to acquire the knowledge, skill and attitudes that will enable them to enhance their quality of life through active living. The Physical Education course at Macdonald High School is designed to fulfill the growth, development and behavioural needs of each student through the medium of physical activity and movement. Emphasis is placed on involvement, and the opportunity for each to build, cultivate and maintain a strong and active mind and body through participation in various activities.
Teacher Expectations:
Students will have a great time in Physical Education if they are willing to participate and try.
Students must attend all classes, be on time and be changed in proper Physical Education attire.
Students do not have to be great athletes; participation, attitude and behaviour are factors that will reflect in the mark.
General Learning Objectives of Physical education:
The Physical Education Department believe in creating a safe environment for all students to thrive. Respect for property, equipment and others are important principles that must be followed by all students at all times. General learning objectives encompass the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students are expected to demonstrate with increasing competency and confidence. Theses outcomes will be achieved through a variety of learning experiences contributing to a physically active and healthy lifestyle.
MOVEMENT: The student will demonstrate competency in selected movement skills, knowledge of movement development and physical activity.
FITNESS MANAGEMENT: The student will demonstrate the ability to develop and follow a fitness plan for lifelong physical activity and wellbeing.
SAFETY: The student will demonstrate safe and responsible behaviour to manage risk and prevent injuries in physical activity and in daily living.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL MANAGEMENT: The student will demonstrate the ability to develop self-understanding, make health enhancing decisions, to work cooperatively and fairly with others, and build positive relationships with their peers.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PRACTICES: The student will demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions for healthy living as it relates to personal health practices.
PRACTICE REACH: Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Cooperation and Honesty.

Required Physical Education Uniform:
Students are required to change clothing for each class to include:
Shorts, track pants or sweat pants (appropriate PE bottoms).
Appropriate MAC PE Department T-shirt.
Non-marking athletic shoes that can be tied.
Failure to have some or all of the necessary gym clothes could pose a serious safety issue, and may result in an inability for the student to participate in a PE class activity.
Security and Health Information:
Leave all valuable in your school locker.
Wash your PE uniform on a regular basis.
Students must change in the designated change areas only.
Students will be given the transition time between classes to change (5 minutes after the 2nd bell has rung).
Students are not to leave the gym area until dismissed by the teacher.
Students unable to participate in PE must have a note from home. Extended inability to participate in PE requires a medical note from the doctor.
All injuries and bullying must be reported to the teacher IMMEDIATELY!
Assessment and Evaluation of Students in Physical education:
(Students will receive) A Daily Evaluation Mark based on their attitude, effort, behaviour and participation (10% of term). Refer to Daily Participation Performance Scale.
(Students will be) Evaluated in PE uniform as it related to the SAFETY of the student and others (10% of term).
(Students will be) Evaluated in their fitness based on prescribed fitness test (10% of term).
(Students will be) Evaluated in written tests/assignments based on the units being covered that term (10% of term).
(Students will be) Evaluated in the competency demonstrated in selective movement skills with respect to the aforementioned Major activities (40% of term).
(Students will be) Evaluated in the competency demonstrated in selective movement skills with respect to the aforementioned Minor activities (20% of term).
